ISLAND DWELLING

SPRING 2022 PROFESSOR ALEKSANDRA AZBEL

At the beginning of this project an abstract shape was provided to me from which I created a topographical map as a site for my dwelling. The deliverables for this project asked that I develop and create an island that would be the site for a dwelling. The island I designed is located in Maine with rocky coasts on three sides and a beach on the fourth. The dwelling itself is designed for an older couple with space for family to come and visit. The house pulls inspiration from traditional New England architecture. Most colonial homes were built around a central heating source, in this project however, I have pulled this traditional form apart and placed a glazed hallway allowing southern light into the center of the building for the most efficient passive heat gain.
